Antwerp appear to be struggling to cope with the quality in Group H on their Champions League debut as they continue to face a baptism of fire. They have been beaten in both their matches so far, losing 5-0 to Barcelona in their opening fixture before blowing away a two goal advantage in a 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk last time out.


Having won the Jupiler Pro League last season, they are falling way short of maintain those high standards this term. The Belgians have collected just one win in the last seven matches across all competitions and suffered a 3-2 league defeat against Sporting Charleroi last weekend.


FC Porto, meanwhile, were beaten at home to Barcelona in their previous Champions League fixture, and sit second in Group H on goal difference. Sergio Conceicao’s men have generally been in fine form lately and travel to Antwerp off the back of two straight wins.

Antwerp vs Porto kick-off time

The Champions League Group H encounter between Antwerp and Porto will be played at Bosuilstadion in Antwerp, Belgium on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Kick-off is at 3pm EDT for fans in the United States.


Royal Antwerp could be without as many as seven players for this Group H clash, with Mandela Keita joining the treatment room after he was forced off in the first half of the defeat to Charleroi at the weekend. Antwerp boss Van Bommel may opt to give Alhassan Yusuf his first Champions League start in Keita's absence.


Porto will make the trip to Antwerp without Ivan Marcano (knee), Gabriel Veron (knock), Wendell (Achilles), Zaidu Sanusi (muscle) and Pepe (muscle) due to various injury issues, while Stephen Eustaquio and Ivan Jaime are unlikely to feature after missing the 2-0 victory over Vilar de Perdizes.


The Belgian outfit have lost their opening two group games and will head into the midweek tie looking to get their quest for European glory up and running.


Royal Antwerp were sent crashing back to earth on Saturday as they fell to a 3-2 loss against Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Jupiler League.


Prior to that, Mark van Bommel’s side picked up a 4-1 victory over Eupen on October 8 which saw their five-match winless run come to an end.


Having lost their opening two games in Group H of the Champions League, Antwerp are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, three points and two places behind Wednesday’s visitors.


Porto, on the other hand, booked their spot in the fourth round of the Taca de Portugal courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Vilar Perdizes last Friday.


This followed a 1-0 victory over Portimonense in the Primeira Liga on October 8 which brought their run of two back-to-back defeats to an end.


Porto now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on September 19, two weeks before suffering a 1-0 loss to Barcelona.


Porto appear to have hit their stride once again and will be backing themselves against the hosts, who have managed just one win in their last seven matches.


Antwerp have conceded eight goals already in the Champions League and we predict the Portuguese side will claim a slender victory in this one.


Royal Antwerp will be in front of their home fans on Wednesday, but a look at the line shows they might need that home-pitch advantage. Porto will hit the road to play their first game against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League Group Stage at 3:00 p.m. ET at Bosuilstadion. While all four teams are eyeing the Round of 16, only the top two teams in the group (Group H) will make it there.


Royal Antwerp and Shakhtar Donetsk combined for 14 shots on goal on October 4th, which explains the impressive five total goals scored. Royal Antwerp fell just short of Shakhtar Donetsk by a score of 3-2. Royal Antwerp didn't live up to their potential and found themselves falling short of the advantage oddsmakers thought they had coming into the game.


Meanwhile, Porto dropped the ball in their first Group Stage match against Barcelona. They put up a good fight, but they still had to settle for second after a 1-0 defeat on October 4th.


This is the second loss in a row for Royal Antwerp and nudges their tournament record down to 0-0-2. As for Porto, their loss dropped their record down to 1-0-1.
